Interesting Sights around Village of Capraia and Limite in Province of Florence
The village of Capraia: the castle and its narrow alleyways and the remains of the city wall, to which the legends and history of this strategic conjunction of naval politics of the Medici are joined.
The Bibbiani Villa: built in the 16th century by the Frescobaldi family on the hills of the same name, and transformed in the first half of the 1800’s by Cosimo Ridolfi who created a “Romantic” park, where Giacomo Puccini often visited, with 120 diverse species of trees.
The Pasquinucci Furnace: an antique furnace for the making of terracotta, now a evocative environment used as an exposition centre. The building has conserved its historical characteristics and the instruments for clay workmanship are still present.
The rural church of S. Jacopo from Pulignano (12th century) in the Romanic style, the San Martino in Campo Abbey, erected around the year 1000 near Artimino.
In the part of the territory that extends to Montalbano, Medician memories in the remains of the wall of the Barco Reale can be found. This is a vast area used as a hunting reserve by the Medicis in the 16th and 17th centuries. A vast network of marked hiking trails extends out all over the Montalbano making it an ideal destination for enthusiasts of excursions and walking. The area is rich in antique buildings which makes one think of the presence of a complex roadway system in the Middle Ages.
Following routes like these which connect the villages of Conio and Castra or that which from Capria reaches Artimino and Carmignano, you can admire the beautiful scenery and the ruins of antique castles, city walls, towers and chapels.
