Places to see in Cerreto Guidi in Province of Florence
The Medici complex is comprised of the Medici villa, the Parish Church of San Leonardo and the Medici bridges. Built in the second half of the 1500’s by desire of Cosimo I, the villa is distinguished by its austere facade, accented by simple framed windows and a doorway dominated by the Medici coat of arms. It is the seat of the Hunting and Territory Museum and a collection of Medici iconographies is housed here, family portraits up to the grand-duchy of Ferdinando I and furnishings from the following periods.
The Parish Church of San Leonardo preserves the look of buildings of the late Romanic period of the Valdelsa and inside, contains a precious baptismal fountain in glazed polychrome terracotta from the studio of Giovanni della Robbia.
The Medici Bridges, by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti, are evocative entrance ways to the square which neighbors the villa and contrast the rest of the building with their majesty and decisive coloring.
The oratory of Santa Liberata, consecrated to the patron saint of Cerreto Guidi, preserves the frescoes of “Madonna with Child between Saints John the Baptist and Leonard” and an interesting wooden ceiling.
