Scarperia lies in the middle of the Mugello valley, at the foot of the Apennine Mountain chain, 30 km from Florence, on the route that links the Tuscan chief town to Bologna and that passes through Passo Del Giogo (Del Giogo Pass). The landscape, shaped by human interventions on this area, represents one of the treasures of the territory and the surroundings of the town are the right place for those who love open air activities.
Founded in 1306 Scarperia still has got the medieval layout that surrounds the Vicariate Building, the square that overlooks the Provostry of SS. Jacopo and Filippo, and the Oratory of Madonna Di Piazza, while one of the oldest handicraft activities, i.e. the production of sharp iron tools (knives), that is the pride of the town.
