Things to see in Sest Fiorentino in the Province of Florence

In the city centre of Sesto, besides the evocative Pretorio Palace decorated with numerous coats of arms, there is the Parish Church of S.Martino. It is a Romanic building with three naves and a 17th century portico. The Parish Church of S.Andrea in Cercina is in pure Romanic style. It is of interest for its original, pointed bell tower and a fresco by Domenico Ghirlandaio.

An example of the most ancient civil architecture is the villa La Mula or Pecchioli, a 13th century construcion with merlons, built on the remains of an Etruscan tomb (7th century a.d.), “a tholos” with a false dome. Not far away is another Etruscan tomb, called “della Montagnola” from the same period and located on a hill in the garden of the Villa Manfredi in Quinto.

The 16th century Villa Corsi Salviati is of noteworthy interest. It has an Italian style garden where exhibitions and performances are held. Located in the suburbs of Sesto is the Museum of the Doccia porcelain, which documents the Ginori porcelain production until its fusion with Richard in 1896. It contains a collection of the most representative items, a library, archive and a photo gallery.
