Chiostro dello Scalzo - Firenze in Toscana
Il Chiostro dello Scalzo era sede della Compagnia dei Disciplinati di San Giovanni Battista, istituita nel 1376 e detta "dello Scalzo" perché il portacroce nelle processioni aveva i piedi nudi.
La confraternita fu soppressa nel 1785 da Pietro Leopoldo di Lorena che ne alienò la proprietà ad eccezione del chiostro adorno di 16 affreschi monocromi, raffiguranti episodi della Vita di San Giovanni Battista, eseguiti da Andrea Del Sarto (1486-1530). (Solo due storie furono dipinte da Franciabigio (1482-1525), durante il soggiorno di Andrea a Parigi nel 1518). Eseguiti tra il 1514 e il 1524 gli affreschi rappresentano un momento di altissimo livello stilistico e tecnico del Maestro che ebbe un ruolo fondamentale nella complessa vicenda artistica fiorentina degli inizi del Cinquecento.
